Bagels, Bagels, Bagels!!!! OR Better yet, New York Style Bagels!!!!
Since I started my blog, I have said I need to make bagels. Well finally two years later I made some!!! After working at the cafe, my bread baking skills improved tremendously. I feel more confident now, and love working with yeast. Don’t you agree, the smell of yeast dough is pretty AMAZING?
A few weeks ago I had a fun surprise, I won a giveaway on Foodwanderings. Shulie had a fun Red Star Yeast giveaway, which included an apron, bread pan, recipe book, yeast, and a few other fun goodies. Sooooooo, what better time than now to make beautiful New York Style Bagels (The recipe is from Red Star Yeast.)
Here is my step by step process, after the dough has had time to rise, and become happy happy!! {Down below I share a fun review on EatSmart Scales, so be sure to check it out!}
Gorgeous dough ready to be loved!
First you divide the dough in four pieces.
Then you divide each piece into three pieces.
Then you shape each piece into a ball.
Next you will put a hole in the center of each ball, and shape the bagel.
You will then put the formed bagels in boiling water and simmer for three minutes.
Be sure to flip them over once.
Look how gorgeous this boiled bagel is!
This is where the magic happens!
Brush the boiled bagels with egg wash, and put together some fun new bagel flavors. We did rosemary and garlic, garlic and minced onion, garlic rosemary shredded Parmesan and minced onion, cinnamon and cardamom = YUM!
Bake the bagels at 375 degrees F for 20-25 minutes.
My sweet hubby and I couldn’t stop eating them….which made me wish I had made more….
There will be a next time for sure, I love this delicious recipe. I had help making my bagels, look who helped me today.
The EatSmart Scale is wonderful, and lightweight. The scale has different units depending on what you are working with. For my bagels I used grams to measure the flour accurately. This is a perfect tool for when you need to make delicious French macarons, which should be measured precisely. The scale is small, and easy to store on your shelf. The scale uses batteries, so there is no cord to get in the way when prepping for your cooking/baking dish.
I love having the ability to measure my ingredients accurately. If you are looking for the perfect kitchen scale, here is the link to where you can get one of your very own!

I hope you enjoy the bagels, and this handy kitchen scale as much as I did!
What is your favorite bagel?
Until next time, Come on in, Have a seat,
Hugs, Terra
