Today on Twitter and my Facebook page I shared that I am celebrating life! Honestly, life pretty much rocks when you stand back and think about it. At work today during one of my audits, one of the managers really warmed my heart. He seriously said the most gracious and kind things about “my baby,” a.k.a my blog! It all really helped me see the full picture, writing my blog each week makes me not only happy, it makes others happy. Which in turn just makes me want to gush with happiness and breakout in a song and dance. Okay, not the song, but for sure the dance! To celebrate this amazing life we live, let’s clink our glasses, and enjoy a delicious cocktail together!!!
Back in May I shared the cocktail called Ballet Russe, where I used delicious Grey Goose Vodka! You may not remember the reasons why I HAD to use Grey Goose. Wellllll….let’s refresh about the fun memory. I am a HUGE fan of J.R. Ward the author of many wonderful books, including the popular series called Black Dagger Brotherhood. The series is a vampire romance, and well freakin’ ROCKS!!!! The one vampire in the book always drank Grey Goose. Now personally I can’t imagine drinking that liquor straight… BUT adding vodka into a drink usually makes that drink shine!
Well in the post for the Ballet Russe cocktail, I shared my interest in trying Herradura. YUP, you guessed it, one of the other vampires in J.R. Ward’s series loved drinking Herradura Tequila. Oh my word how I am so easily sucked into a book. However, let me tell you this tequila will change your life. No more cheap tequila allowed in the CafeTerraBlog house!
Herradura was so kind to send me a bottle to try. I have some fruit soaking in the tequila as we speak, so stay tuned for that fun! Thank you to Herradura, I have learned more than I ever would have thought to learn about the liquor. For so long (because I drank the cheap stuff) I thought tequila was not good.
The beautiful thing about this liquor, it is made with precision, care, love, and lots and lots of gorgeous agave. So it is actually made to where you can sip it like you would a glass of your finest cognac.
The crazy thing in life, when we get sent down a path for a reason. So I received the lovely bottle from Herradura. Then no joke, two days later the chef at a facility I was auditing shares his knowledge of Herradura. He actually toured the Herradura home (yes it is a large gorgeous home in Mexico,) and saw how the liquor was made. I decided at that moment I NEED to tour a alcohol facility someday, I would so love that!
The tequila I received is Herradura Silver. This means the tequila has been aged for 45 days. If you want to try reposado tequila (which I did VERY recently AND loved it,) it is aged for 11 months. The next tequila I plan to try is Anejo, it is aged for two years. I can only imagine the Anejo has an amazing flavor. AND there is a Extra Anejo which is aged for a lovely 49 months!!!
Here are a few facts about Herradura: It is made with Blue Agave. The Blue Agave is only harvested in the Mexican state of Jalisco. To truly experience the finest tequila, use the three senses – sight, smell, and taste (like you would a fine wine.) A traditional way to drink tequila is to serve it in a tall, narrow glass called a “Caballito,” which means, “Little Horse.” Herradura has been creating their delicious tequila since 1870, for over 140 years! AND guess what Herradura means? Horseshoe!
The recipe I share was inspired from my fresh mint I am growing, the extra blackberries leftover from my Peach Blackberry Galette, and the delicious Herradura sitting on my counter screaming my name!
10 minPrep Time
10 minCook Time
20 minTotal Time
For Blackberry Juice - In a small sauce pot, on medium heat, cook down a pint (about 1 cup) of fresh blackberries until softened, and can be mashed down completely. Let the cooked blackberries cool.
For Simple Syrup - In a small sauce pot, on medium heat, add 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water, cook down until sugar is completely dissolved
To mix cocktail - In a larger pitcher, or three individual margarita glasses, muddle mint at bottom of the pitcher, add ice, club soda, blackberry juice, simple syrup, and Herradura. Mix well with a spoon, and enjoy!
A refreshing cocktail that would be perfect to enjoy on warm summer day! Which by the way when living in the south, we have TONS of warm days for about the next 2 months….so I guess that means I can enjoy a lot more lovely cocktails!!!
